1. My whole family camps out for Memorial Day weekend just outside of Buena Vista. It was the perfect place to camp and go 4 wheeling.

2. Peyton's last field trip in 1st day was at the zoo. The kids are inside a wind tunnel.

3. We spent an evening at the Olympic Center watching the Wounded Warriors play basketball. Then our friend Jen who is a dietician for the athletes gave us a tour.

4. We head to Nichols Lake for the first fish of the season.

Peyton's class has been working on their program called The Carnivale of Life. He was so cute! They each had a special part. Peyton's was about family and why he loves them. He loves that his dad takes him out four wheeling.

Dawson and I had a speedy quick lunch down in Manitou Springs. Then we peeked into a gem shop where we saw Dawson's favorite guy Einstein. Let's have a quick peek at last year at this time. Spent the morning with Skye at her preschool. As we were walking in she says to me, "See that guy with the hair (pointing to Pastor Dave), his name is GOD!" Pastor Dave comes to their class on Tuesday's with his guitar and sings them songs about Jesus.

Skye and I had a girls day shopping together with aunt Jen and Ava. We meet Jen, Aunt Tara, Kennedy and Emmy at Nordstrom's Rack and found a few things for Skye. Then we went to Ryleigh's hockey game, out to lunch and back to the mall to shop some more.

Day 56

I am desperately trying to catch up. The kids play at my computer now since grandma let us in on a fun website full of games. One of the kids (Mr. nobody) destroyed my card reader, so for a week I couldn't upload pictures, until I bought a new one. The USB port on my camera doesn't work either....no one told me that it was best to upload pictures through a card reader so for years I uploaded through my camera and now it is damaged. Plus, one of my CF cards pulled attitude on me and I can't retrieve the pictures from it. So, I had to choose 3 pictures to fill in for the lost images. GRRR, I keep thinking that I just want to drop out of this 365 and do a 52. We will see! This picture is one the computer took for me. This is how I look while working, I usually have this little girl wrapped around my neck rocking me back and forth.

ART SMART with Peyton's class today! They are getting ready to celebrate their Spanish themed program on Friday! I had the kids make banners to hang in the gym that read

I've been dabbling with a new way of eating. The kids are not happy about it. These are the 3 books I have been cookin' from. Dawson complained that we have no kid food in the house since I started reading the "GREEN" book!

We've started a herb garden! We have a grow light that throws out an alarming amount of wattage. It lights up the whole backyard. Impressive! It also gives us a very groovy orange glow. I like to call it light therapy cause I swear it makes you HAPPY! It is horrible light to shoot in, though. I didn't even attempt to fix the color. It is what it is!

The kids had a day off of school, so we spent the day playing and hiking! We have the greatest hiking areas just 5 minutes away so we don't have to travel far. We love going to Red Rocks or as the kids call it Garden of the Goddesses.

Dawson and I just finished reading The Tail of Despereaux. I ordered the dvd from Netflix and it arrived the day after we finished. He has been sick the last two days so today we snuggled up on the couch together and watched the movie. I also made him soup because in the book soup is banished, but I also told him it was healing soup that would fight the sick bugs.

I had planned on making Valentine sugar cookies with the kids, but just couldn't fit it all in. So, our cookies were made a few days later and were not hearts. The kids chose alligators, sharks, gingerbread men, stars and one cat. Dawson made cupcakes earlier in the day. He is able to make them all by himself now.

I finally took all of the kids in for hair cuts. We were all getting a little scraggly around here. Peyton wanted a mow hawk, so we gave him one. When I was taking his picture he was doing his tough guy poses. He's BAD to the BONE!

We spent the evening painting valentines boxes with the kids. Peyton's turned out really cute. I love his 2 hearts on both sides. He invited us to his class Valentine's ice cream sundae party.

I thought Dawson would be sad that he didn't get Valentines from his friends or get to go to a party, since he is homeschooled, but he wasn't. He did have fun making a box though. I made him chocolate covered strawberries just for him because they are his favorite and I didn't want him to feel left out.

Skye loved painting her box and wouldn't let anyone help her. This was her first year of receiving Valentines and she was lovin' it. She would say this one is from my special friend Eva and this one is from.....

Santa brought the boys motorbikes for Christmas, but they just wouldn't start consistently so we sent them back. For the last month and a half Dave has been scouring Craig's List looking for 4 wheelers to replace the bikes. He finally found two that are the boys size. They have been having fun riding them in the open space by our house.

Quinoa cabbage soup our new favorite. Dave calls it wholesome and I agree, you just feel good when you eat it. I make it once a week, but it doesn't last long. You can find the recipe here. Day 40

Every night I try to tidy up our little work space where Dawson and I do his school work. Tonight I decided to tackle the rest of the basement and weed through their toys and d-junk. While I was working Dawson kept sneaking out of bed to beg me for a snuggle. I would tell him I would come in 5, but 5 would fly by and he would reappear. While I was picking up toys I noticed this block of wood with a drawing on it. On one of Dawson's visits he had placed it on the floor so that I would see it. He is quite cleaver because it pulled on a heart string and guess who got a snuggle?

It was 100's day at Peyton's school today. We stopped by to hangout with him but he was working on math. I think he thought the day would be one big party and it wasn't. When he hopped off of the bus he was a little disappointed. So, we walked 100 steps home and made it to the garage door. I tried to create some 100's day activities to cheer him up but it was no use. It was just going to be the worst 100 day ever.

And it was...he threw up that evening.

Day 33

School was cancelled for 2 days in a row due to cold temperatures. I gave Dawson the option of taking a day off from his dyslexic tutor and he chose to go....PROUD MAMA and FLATTERED TEACHER. We spent part of the day making dream catchers. I am reading The Big Friendly Giant by Roald Dahl to Dawson. The giant catches dreams and stores them in jars so Dawson wanted to make one. All you need is a mason jar, water, sprinkles, and toss some little trinkets in there. The kids love spinning it around and around to watch the tornado affect.

It's a GOOD day today! We just paid off 2 personal credit cards and 2 business credit cards. Almost 5 years ago Dave started our Prosthetic and Orthotic business. There were a few months when we didn't take a pay check and had to put our living expenses on cards. We have been trying to pay these cards off for forever. Finally, we are at a place in our business where we are able to make a BIG payment. UGH, I hope we never get into credit card debt again. I feel 20 pounds lighter today! P.S a big huge thanks to my Dave for working so hard for our family.

Peyton's about to lose his two front teeth. They are getting really wiggly. It's about time to get rid of these two, they have been dead for a year now. Love this picture of Skye and Dave. We had a great day! The weather was still really nice so we played at the park and meet some new friends. After lunch we packed up and went to Woodland Park for ice cream and donuts. On the way home we stopped at Garden of the Gods to run around and play. We scrambled along the rocks, explored the dried up riverbed and played on a log that stretched across the old stream. The sun was just about setting over Pikes Peak when I stole this dreamy shot of Skye and Dave kissing. I adore these two.

We stopped in at the Bargain Book store to see if we could find anything fabulous. Dawson you could have stayed there all day rummaging through the consignment section. We found the funnest book at the library that is full of great experiments for kids. It is called Cool Chemistry Concoctions 50 Formulas that Fizz, Foam, Splatter and Ooze. They chose bendable bones and crystal garden. They thought that the bones would be ready to bend after 5 minutes and were a little disappointed when I told them it would take 3 days.

We spent a very lazy weekend at Jen's house. Grant, Dave, and Dawson were out wiring lights in the garage so Sis and I snuck out for a couple of hours. We headed on over to an antique shop and had a blast checking out all of the old dressers, cribs, highchairs, exercise bikes, stoves,.....crazy thing is there were a few items from our time which dates us. I found these cute bottles and loved the blue color of them. One is Minard's Liniment and the other is Dr. D. Jayne's Expectorant. I might have to fill them with my own little concoction.

It was a crazy busy day today. Dawson spent a couple of hours at his dad's lab building, while I took Skye to library and ballet. When we returned home we spent an hour on reading which consisted of me struggling to keep him focused while remaining calm (oh lord some days are tough). We made it through all of his daily goals so he could roller skating that evening. TGIF!

Today is National Popcorn Day. Who knew and who makes up these days. I just happened to be looking at a monthly calendar and it informed me of this, so we made caramel popcorn and shared it with the neighbors. It is the super soft kind and you can find the recipe here. Yummy!

All three of the kids helped me make play-doh today! They played for an hour while Grandpa and I cooked a turkey dinner. Grandpa was in town so we feed him well before he headed back out on the road the next day. Day 17

Today we went back to the skate park to let the boys ride. It was a little windy so Skye stayed in the Yukon and played. I jumped in and out of the truck to snap pictures of the boys as they rode by, and then I would peek in on Skye. This picture is one of my peeks. Skye was teasing me when I would try to take a picture of her. So, I snuck and just shot with out looking and I caught a wisp of her angel curls. I was intending on sharing a picture of Peyton, because every time he would ride by me he would look my way and give me his "hey mom smirk"! Then he would ride over for a drink and a hug and tell me I was the coolest mom.

Day 16

We loaded up the bikes again and headed over to the Santa Fe trail. It is nice and flat there so Skye can ride here bike, but it has the wowies (rolling dirt bike hills), and the bowl (a skate park with a big cement bowl to drop into.) A little something, something for everyone. Dave and I would take turns on the cruiser riding the wowies. It is a simple way to put a big fat smile on your face. Check out my cute guy here!

Day 15

I love the weekends. The boys went for a ride and Skye and I hooked up with them at their favorite little mexican joint for a breakfast burrito. I brought along my big camera because Skye was dressed so cute. We beat them there so I thought I would snap a few of her while we waited for them, but I had no card in my camera...UGH! The kids all ate, then they hopped on their bikes and finished out the ride down to their dad's lab. We beat them there too, so I snapped a few with my little camera while we waited (again) and they turned out so cute.

Day 14

It is funny how a chain of events leads you to a place that you otherwise would not have discovered. We found ourselves in an old rock and bead shop in the industrial part of the city today. This place has been around since the 60s. Dawson was in heaven. We spent an hour in there asking questions and browsing. We even had a tour of the back of the shop where they have all of the saws and polishers. So cool. When we made it home Dawson headed over to the park for a little dig and brought home his find to pan through.

Go Fish or as Dawson calls it Gold Fish. He beat me, no skunked me and I am past the point of letting him win...it's game on. When he can talk smack about kicking my rump then he can handle it if I bring my A game ;). I have been taking a little different approach to teaching Dawson since Christmas. I am trying to focus more on his strengths and less on his weaknesses. Since he is right brained meaning he is highly visual, nonsequential processors who learns by remembering the way things look and by taking words and turning them into mental pictures I am trying to teach to his style of learning.

It's been awhile (June) since we've had Chanda our good friend over for dinner. She has a great energy about her and is such an inspiration. We feel really lucky to have meet her. This year we are making a monthly donation to her foundation. Checkout her story here or you can find her here. Thanks Chanda for making an effort to visit our CRAZY family. Ha Ha, ten minutes after Chanda arrived Dave put on a pot of tea but turned on the wrong burner. I had place the broccoli on the front burner waiting to put it in the oven. It heated my pyrex dish so hot that it shattered the whole thing into a millions pieces and shot glass and broccoli all over the kitchen. Dinner turned out fine, minus the broccoli, and the rest of the night we sat by the fire while the kids entertained us.

Day 10

Peyton came downstairs with my "quiet book" handles through his feet dragging it along the ground which almost sent me over the edge. My mom made 2 of those books for us kids when we were little ones to keep us quiet during church. I am not sure where she found the time. Actually, I remember her telling me she was pregnant with Jen or Brad and couldn't sleep so she would stay up all night working on these books. It' been on a shelf for awhile, but thank goodness it got drug out cause Skye has a blast playing with it.

Day 9

It was a beautiful morning for a bike ride with my guys. We parked just outside of Garden of the Gods and rode single track into the park, stopping to explore and let Dawson catch his breath. It is time for him to transition into a bike with gears. Up hill is tough on the legs. Dawson and I stashed our bikes and explored while Dave rode back to get the truck. It starting to snow pretty good so, Dawson and I were pretending we were going to have to hunker down for a while and we had to decide where would be a great place to hideout. We settled on tucking under a bridge.

Day 8

We hung out at the fort today. Dawson worked away on reconstructing the walls, Skye wandered a little while talking to herself, and Peyton played fetch with Harley. He had her stumped when he threw the ball and it wedged between a fork in the tree. Poor Harley searched and searched but just couldn't quite find it until Peyton pointed it out to her. Then she clumsily jumped up and retrieved it.

I tried to pull a fast one on Skye for Christmas. She really wanted a pink DSI but I just couldn't justify buying a 3 1/2 year old one. So, I tried to disguise Dawson's old DS in a pink case (tricky huh), but all I could find was a DSI case so I bought it. I didn't fit, but it didn't matter, she loves the old black one. Now she is a cool kid like the brothers and plays Dora games.

Ugh, I had every intention of getting myself up at 5 to workout with my personal trainer Jackie, but 5 snoozes later there I lay all cozy in my bed. I only rolled out of bed when I had to get Peyton up for school. Dawson has to get up at the same time too even though he is homeschooled. I miss all the sleeping in that we did during the holidays.

Day 4

Dawson had his tutoring this morning. We were going to hang out at the hospital until he finished, but it had flooded over the Christmas break and noisy fans were everywhere. So, we went to a quaint little coffee shop downtown for a little hot cocoa. Peyton finished his in 5 seconds flat. Skye looked adorable with the morning light peeking through the window stirring the whipped cream with chocolate sprinkles on top while deep in thought. A couple of minutes later she tells me that she doesn't like her cocoa.

We were all getting ready to go swimming at the Y when Dave walked past the bathroom and saw this. Peyton, you are so good to your little sister, it amazes me. She adores you. You were so gentle with her as she looked up into your eyes.

Oh Petyon, you have the worst crashes. I am not sure how you have survived all of the crazy things that have happened to you. You were so mad with the snow because it was too cold to really form a nice ball with your snowball maker. That snowdrift was perfect until you dug down too deep with your scooper driving your little nose right in to the rocks surrounding the flowerbed. You cried the biggest crocodile tears mostly because you were so mad at the snow.

Happy New Year Everyone! Grandma Pat, Dawson, Peyton, Skylar, Ava and I had a blast playing magic glow light in the dark. This shot was just shy of midnight. I set my camera on a tripod, on tv (time value or shutter speed), set the shutter to 25 seconds, turned on a flashlight, focused on the light and let the kids go crazy. I wished that I had sparklers because it would have been such a cool effect. The kids were hilarious spinning the light around. When their 25 second was up we would all look in the view finder to see their fabulous design.

Day 365

The reason why I am doing another year of 365. I want to remember these little moments.

We spent New Years Eve with my parents and little Miss Ava. We fried up some beer battered halibut and fries, watched movies, and rang in the New Year with a light show.

Day 364

We made the yummiest crepes for breakfast.

Crepes Recipe

1 cup flour

2 eggs

1/2 cup milk

2/3 cup water

1/4 tsp salt

2 tbsp butter melted

1/3 cup sugar

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla

Mix together all ingredients until smooth. Chill for 20 min. Cook on medium heat in a nonstick fry pan. Remember to tilt the pan with a circular motion to create a thin layer.

Serve with:

ice cream

fruit

whipped cream

cream cheese and yogurt (equal parts)

We had a little storm blow in that was a frosty wonderland. So, we went for a little walk through the meadows, climbed trees and ate snow from the branches. The we went home to a cozy fire and s'mores.

I spent the morning with Peyton at school. He did a report on Alabama and then we had a small Christmas party. He made me bottle cap magnets with picture of him in them and a scrapbook photo frame. He was so excited to give them to me.

It's tradition to do a puzzle during the holidays. The kids worked on one that was 100 pieces and I did a 1000, well actually 999 one piece was missing. When I am in the Old Folks Home (that is what we called it back in my day) this might drive me crazy if I am not already in such a state.

It has been a exceptionally mild start to our winter. We have had a few days in the high 6o's. On one of those days Dawson hung Christmas lights without a shirt on (crazy) and Skye blew bubbles.
